This painting blends surreal geometry with the spirit of the desert. The foreground ripples with mountains, canyons, and ridges in earthy tones, a desert landscape alive with movement, memory, and timeless silence. The vastness of the terrain becomes a stage for energy to flow, carrying the weight of history and the whispers of the unseen. A single line winds through the entire piece, uniting land, sky, and spirit like a thread of fate—an unbroken current of connection weaving every element together.
On the right, two faces emerge in radiant green light, luminous yet serene. They embody a deep connection and an unspoken bond—an intimacy that transcends words, radiating calm, harmony, and the quiet power of trust. Their presence is both earthly and otherworldly, as if rooted in the desert and at the same time rising beyond it.
Above and around them, the faint form of a cosmic owl stretches across the composition, a sacred guardian whose watchful gaze protects the bond below. The owl, timeless and vast, represents wisdom, mystery, and the unseen forces that guide us. Floating geometric shapes drift in the blue sky like fragments of thought or memory, while sweeping arcs and spirals bend the space into radiant cycles of energy, echoing the infinite paths of love, guardianship, and connection.

This painting was created as a commissioned surreal portrait of Greg and his wife, Monique. At the time, I was exhibiting my work in Greg’s Coffee Bar in Truckee, California, where I felt an incredible amount of support and love from the community. When Greg asked me to create this piece, I’ll admit I was nervous at first—not entirely confident I could capture their essence in the way it deserved. Yet as the work unfolded, something deeper began to guide the process, and in the end I found both peace and joy in the result.
Greg and Monique share a special connection to the desert, particularly the Black Rock Desert—home of Burning Man—a place that holds profound meaning for them both. I wanted to weave that spirit into the work, allowing the desert landscape to ripple across the canvas in flowing ridges and canyons, alive with memory and movement. Through it all, a single winding line runs unbroken, symbolizing connection, fate, and the thread of unity that ties everything together.
Their faces emerge softly in radiant light, embodying the deep bond they share, while the faint outline of a cosmic owl spreads across the piece like a sacred guardian—protective, eternal, and wise. This painting became not only a portrait of two people, but also a reflection of the landscapes, symbols, and unseen forces that hold their love.
