Paper Airplanes flying through a vast, star-speckled void, stretching like an infinite universe…their simple shape a playful symbol of exploration, dreams, and childlike wonder. A large bright star is seen from beyond the nebulae luminating the bright colors of the nebulous gateway. A single energetic line dances through the composition in a looping rhythm—connecting clouds, stars, and thought—almost like a path or pulse that guides the viewer’s eye across the painting. This flowing mark adds a sense of movement, suggesting time, travel, or the continuity of thought.

I painted this piece live at The Bluebird in Reno — and like most nights at that venue, the energy in the room was electric. The music, the movement, the vibe…it all fed into the flow of the painting. At the time, I had just started incorporating paper airplanes into my work — they’d become a recurring subject that symbolized freedom, imagination, and the ability to travel far with very little.
As I started painting, the idea of launching these planes into outer space came quickly and naturally. It felt right. This piece is a perfect example of how I often work — taking familiar forms or symbols that I’ve already explored and remixing them in unexpected ways. For me, it’s a visual language that keeps evolving, and this painting is a moment in that journey — a cosmic collision of imagination.
