This painting is a surreal tribute to one of nature’s hardest workers — the bumblebee — but with a twist. She’s carrying a harvest of different kinds of hash, golden oil, and sticky nugs of marijuana on her back, all oozing and dripping down her fuzzy body. The gooey resin, chunky crystals, and vibrant colors made it feel alive. The background is a clean white marble with gold veins running through it, giving the whole piece a kind of sacred, elevated vibe. It’s like she’s a little psychedelic guardian — buzzing through space carrying the goods.

This piece was a commission for a guy who owns a hash-making factory in San Francisco. When he told me the floors in the factory were speckled with gold leaf, I immediately got the idea to use a gold-veined marble background to reflect that. The concept came together naturally from there — a bumblebee loaded up with different types of hash, oil, and fresh nugs, dripping with resin and flying high. I had a lot of fun playing with the textures in this one — from the sticky concentrates to the crystals and layered plant material. It was one of those pieces that just flowed and turned into something really special.
