This piece is all about capturing the energy and character of the queen bumblebee. I painted her with a golden body with black and white stripes… textured and bold, while letting the wings stay light and transparent, almost shimmering. On her head rests a crown of pansies, a playful and whimsical touch that ties the elegance of nature to a more imaginative, dreamlike world.
The background of soft greens and yellows gives the whole painting a warm, glowing atmosphere, letting the details of the bee and flowers really shine. For me, this piece celebrates the beauty and importance of pollinators, while also inviting a sense of joy and wonder. It’s both a nod to nature and a little spark of fantasy woven together on the canvas.

Pansies have always felt special to me. They carry an older, nostalgic charm that makes them feel almost timeless. Their soft petals and expressive little “faces” give them a gentle personality, reminding me of simpler times. While they may not be the richest flower for pollinators, they still provide bees and butterflies with nourishment in the early and late parts of the season. For me, pansies hold a quiet, sentimental beauty—rooted in memory, whimsical joy and still very alive in the natural cycle today.
