This painting is a surreal and imaginative depiction of a bumblebee and sunflowers, merging the two into a single entity. The bee’s body is detailed with its characteristic black and yellow fuzz, delicate translucent wings, and intricate legs. However, instead of a typical bee’s back, vibrant sunflowers grow, seamlessly integrating into its form. The background features a soft gradient of blue and yellow hues, adding to the dreamlike quality of the artwork.

Statement From Michael

This piece is a celebration of the connection between effort and bloom—between the pollinator and the reward. I’ve always seen bees as more than just workers; to me, they’re symbols of persistence, purpose, and natural magic. I often call them the ultimate givers of life.

When I first imagined flowers blooming from a bee’s back, sunflowers were among the very first that came to mind, along with pansies and daisies. Their bright, bold faces felt like the perfect counterpart to the bee’s quiet diligence.

Like the other humble bumblebees in this collection, she is painted as a reminder of how precious these insects are and how deeply they shape our world—often in ways we don’t even see. Here, the bee carries her flowers like a crown, worn with grace and strength—a surreal nod to the way effort and beauty are forever intertwined.
